    My Company
    The My Company program combines hands-on business training and the availability of competitive loans of up to $15,000 to help enterprising young people start and run their own business. The My Company program is offered by the Government of Ontario in partnership with Royal Bank. Small Business Enterprise Centres and Business Self-Help Offices across the province will provide business training and on-going business support.

    Summer Company
    The Summer Company program provides hands-on business training and mentoring together with awards of up to $3,000 to help enterprising young people start up and run their own summer businesses. Summer Company is coordinated and delivered at the community level through the Small Business Enterprise Centres and Business Self-Help Offices by way of community mentoring groups. Community mentoring groups consist of four to five volunteer business advisors from the local community.

    Ontario Secondary School Business Plan Competition
    "Timiskaming District Business Plan Challenge"
    All secondary school students attending school full time within the Timiskaming District are eligible to apply. Students may submit plans individually, or as a group limited to a maximum of four (4) eligible students. The business plan challenge usually runs in May and is completed by the end of June.

    Judges evaluate each plan independently and award marks based on a pre-determined marking format. The top three (3) business plans will receive an award and the 1st place winner will be entered in the Regional Business Plan Competition for Northern Ontario.

    Teacher's Resources - Opportunity Trails: An Atlantic-Wide Connection
    Opportunity Trails: An Atlantic-Wide Connection is a guide published by Atlantic Canada Opportunities Agency (ACOA) to help educators access organizations and resources that promote various aspects of entrepreneurship development. Although the guide was developed for the Atlantic region, most resources included in the guide are applicable anywhere in the country.

    Education Resources - Future Entrepreneurs Program
    Future Entrepreneurs is a voluntary curriculum support program teachers can use to introduce an entrepreneurial mind-set and skills to students in Grades 7 and 8.

    Future Entrepreneurs will be an interactive curriculum program that aims to:

    • Raise awareness of entrepreneurship as a viable career option;
    • Help students develop the attributes and skills associated with entrepreneurs, including creativity, innovation, self-confidence, planning and risk taking;
    • Motivate students to pursue further study, exploration and consideration of enterpreneurship.

    Break Into Business Camp
    "Break Into Business" is a one week program operated at Camp Cadanac located near Kapuskasing. The program is geared for youth between the ages of 10 and 13 designed to introduce them to the business world in a fun manner and to encourage them to realize their own entrepreneurial spirit. The youngsters venture into the business world for five days, learning about entrepreneurship through a wide range of activities involving art, drama and games. They even get a chance to start their very own business for a day, selling products or services of their choice in downtown Kapuskasing.

    Kid's Business
    The Kirkland Lake Northern Credit Union sponsors and organizes the annual Kids Business event. There is no charge to participate in the 3-hour business. The age for this event is 6 to 12. Prizes are awarded to the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place, but since each child is a winner in Northern`s eyes, all entries receive a participant prize. Businesses are judged by members of the business community based on creativity and originality by the child.
